The South Dakota Transportation Department has asked the Yankton County Commission to consider taking over maintenance on Highways 314 and 153, west of Yankton.
The state would give the county a onetime payment of one point three million dollars to take over those roads.
Commission Chairman Todd Woods says they need more time and details….

Woods says the money from the state would be an immediate help, but not solve their long term road issues….

Woods says he would be interested in seeing if the state transportation department would be interested in swapping for the bridge on old Highway 50 northeast of Yankton…..

The commission took no action on the proposal from the state.
