The 2021 Minnesota Legislature begins their session today. State Farmers Union President Gary Wertish says one thing they want state lawmakers to do is to fund more meat processing plants as well as inspectors.

He says the damage caused by the pandemic has highlighted the need to keep funding the state’s farm loan mediation program and that’s another priority for his group.

Wertish says other legislative goals Farmers Union wants to see accomplished is assistance for roads and bridges, local county governments, and education.

Minnesota lawmakers begin their session today and are expected to wrap up May 17 or 2021.
