State auditors have issued an audit critical of how the Nebraska Brand Committee operates.

State Auditor Charlie Janssen notes the audit made 18 findings, some routine, but some that stick out.

The audit also found the Brand Committee lacked adequate procedures to determine the amount of inspection fees and other certificate costs to be collected.

Janssen says the audit began after his office received an anonymous tip

The audit also alleges executive director Shawn Harvey released the proceeds of a livestock sale without having proof of ownership and of backdating the approval of an employee disciplinary form.
