A state audit criticizes a number of spending decisions made by the independent Nebraska Tourism Commission.

The commission became independent in 2012 and has overspent its budget by 4-point-4 Million dollars.

State Auditor Charlie Janssen is critical of the 44-Thousand dollars paid to a speaker at a tourism conference in Kearney, with 9-Thousand dollars going to other speakers at the conference

Janssen says the audit discloses the commission paid 18-Thousand dollars in moving expenses for an employee to move from Sidney to Kearney

Janssen says he doesn’t know of any criminal conduct by the commission, but has passed the audit on to the Attorney General’s office.
