Nebraska Corrections officials say staff turnover rate dropped to 24-percent overall last year; 31-percent in protection services turnover.

Governor Pete Ricketts says the Department of Correctional Services has focused on reducing staff turnover.

Corrections says through the staff turnover rate has dropped, it remains twice as high as it should be and it remains tough to recruit and retain staff at the maximum security prison in Tecumseh.

Ricketts says the Tecumseh prison presents its own challenges.

The state has been transferring staff from Omaha to Tecumseh to offset turnover at that prison.
