With spring wheat planting just right around the corner, most producers are spending the necessary time prepping, but they’re not the only ones who are getting ready. SDSU wheat breeder Karl Glover is focusing on preparing his team for the coming season of spring wheat breeding. Glover says he uses this time to work with a variety of traits.
He says they have a new variety set to release in 2023 and so far, he’s been happy with its early results.
Glover notes this process has taken nearly a decade to get to this point, but the results will be worth it.
South Dakota Wheat estimates there were 720,000 acres of spring wheat planted in last year in South Dakota.
