One of the major priorities for Iowa Farmers Union members for state lawmakers this year is addressing pesticide spray drift. IFU President Jana Linderman says farmers need quick and accurate information from the state web site as to how to deal with that issue, what protocols they should follow when drift occurs.
Linderman says another of their priorities matches Governor Branstad’s in funding infrastructure needs which have been deteriorating for many years. She says they do support an increase in the gas tax to help fund those needs.
Iowa has not raised its gas tax since 1989 and the condition of the state’s farm to market roads are concerning to not only ag groups but to many legislators and the Governor.
