The South Dakota State men and the South Dakota women scored victories Saturday in the season’s first basketball showdown for the in-state rivals.

South Dakota State got a game-high 30 points from Mike Daum, including the go-ahead bucket with 2.8 seconds left to give the Jacks a 73-72 win against South Dakota Saturday inside Frost Arena.

The Jackrabbits (8-9, 1-1 Summit) rebounded from Wednesday’s loss to North Dakota State that ended their 34-game home winning streak and improved to 10-0 inside Frost against South Dakota since 2000.

South Dakota (10-6, 1-1) played without starting center Tyler Flack and went 8 for 30 from downtown against SDSU’s zone defense.

South Dakota sophomore guard Allison Arens scored 24 points as the Coyote women defeated in-state rival South Dakota State 65-62 inside the Sanford Coyote Sports Center Saturday afternoon.

South Dakota (13-2, 2-0 Summit League) extends its 21-game home winning streak, which breaks an 8-year-old school record for the most consecutive home games won.

South Dakota State (10-4, 1-1 Summit League) was led by guard Madison Guebert’s 21 points.
