A special state legislative session may be held in Minnesota yet this year. Minnesota Farmers Union Government Relations Director Thom Petersen says it could happen right after the election to address the skyrocketing cost of health insurance for Minnesotans, including farmers and ranchers.
He says if a special session is called, legislative leaders will then meet to determine the format and agenda. Petersen is hoping it will include not only health care, but also the tax relief and bonding bills that were left in limbo.
He says the tax relief measure discussed during the regular session has changed and they will have to rewrite the legislation for either a special session or the next regular session beginning in January.
Petersen says the other factor that could affect the tax bill is the upcoming budget forecast, which is due out in November.
