Two Congressmen considering a run for Speaker of the House have ag backgrounds. House Agriculture Committee Chair Mike Conaway from Texas earlier said he’s considering running and most recently Kansas Representative Mike Pompeo has shown interest in the job. South Dakota Farm Bureau President Scott Vanderwal says both Conaway and Pompeo would be good choices for agriculture.
Wisconsin Congressman Paul Ryan is being pressured to run for Speaker of the House. Earlier he said he wasn’t interested, however Vanderwal says should Ryan be chosen as Speaker, he’d be helpful for agriculture too.
Vanderwal says the Speaker’s position is an important one in being able to move legislation that effects agriculture.
Should Ryan choose not to run, the race for Speaker of the House is considered wide open.
