Soybean President Says China’ Ad Targeting Iowa Soybean Farmers Doesn’t Make Sense

The Chinese placed an ad in the Des Moines Register targeted at Iowa’s Soybean growers. It highlighted the impact the trade war is and will continue to have on them. Iowa Soybean Association President Bill Shipley says the advertisement didn’t make sense and if they thought the ad would compel the U.S. to negotiate on the trade war, that also didn’t make sense.

He says following the recent failure of trade talks to move forward, President Trump placed another round of tariffs on China. Shipley isn’t sure that’s the right strategy in dealing with China but he says President Trump needs to realize how much farmers are suffering from the trade battle.

Part of President Trump’s strategy besides helping farmers with market facilitation payments is working on new trade deals and he was just successful with that this week with the renegotiation of KORUS. Shipley says that South Korean deal will be helpful as will any trade agreement.

Shipley is also hoping the U.S. and China can solve their trade differences and at least negotiate with each other.
