The 2014 Iowa state legislative session was a successful one for agriculture and funding several needed programs. That’s according to Iowa Soybean Association President Brian Kemp of Sibley who says major victories included passage of energy legislation boosting biodiesel as well as support given for agricultural research.
Kemp says in addition legislators funded the Vet Diagnostic Laboratory at Iowa State University. He says one of the more important ag programs that received significant funding was the ‘’On Farm Network” that helps producers with technology.
He says they were disappointed lawmakers failed to pass funding for bridge and road repair and upkeep. He says they’ll make another attempt at that next session.
Kemp says House Ag Chairman Josh Byrnes of Osage made great last gasp effort to get transportation needs funded but fell just a bit short as time ran out.
