America’s soybean farmers remain frustrated by the failure of the U.S. and China to come to agreement in resolving the current trade war. Iowa Soybean Association President Lindsay Greiner says he was optimistic up until Friday that a deal would be reached but then the President announced more tariffs on $200 billion of Chinese goods. China on Monday then said they’d retaliate on $60 billion of U.S. goods on June 1. He says farmers continue to suffer.
He says farmers are hurting from the trade war as well as natural disasters and some type of funding will be needed to keep many from going out of business.
Greiner says it’s more important than ever now that the Trump administration follow through with trade deals with other potential customers as quickly as possible.
Another Iowa soybean farmer, John Heisdorffer who serves as Chairman of the American Soybean Association says soybean prices are 20 to 25 percent or even more, below pre tariff levels.
