Congress has started holding hearings on the next farm bill, and farm groups like the American Soybean Association are coming forward with their “Farm Bill Wish List.”  Valley Spring, South Dakota farmer and American Soybean Association past president and chairman of the board, Kevin Scott says improving Title One safety net for soybeans is the top priority.

Other farm bill priorities of the soybean organization are to have a volunteer flexible incentive for conservation programs, as well as high-speed broadband internet to reach all rural areas.  Scott says the COVID pandemic virus taught farmers the importance of having access to broadband internet.  Scott says without broadband internet farmers will find it difficult in the future to conduct business.  Scott says other farm bill priorities as established by the membership is the expansion of trade opportunities for soybeans and soy-based products, and the inclusion of biobased fuels.
