American Soybean Association members brought their trade concerns to Congress this week. ASA Board member and South Dakota grower Kevin Scott says retaliatory tariffs imposed by China are at the top of their list.
He says they split into five teams and visited a dozen Senators and Representatives. They told lawmakers just the talk of tariffs has already caused lost markets and economic hardship.
Scott also says the U.S. needs to get moving on trade agreements rather than sitting on the sidelines as the European Union has already entered into deals with both Mexico and Japan.
Scott says his group’s members want to make their living from the market and not government subsidies put in to make up for trade losses. He says for the next generation of farmers to survive there needs to be long term market development.
