After several years of records, U.S. soybean exports are expected to be down for the 2018-19 marketing year. Paul Burke with the U.S. Soybean Export Council says that’s because China had bought hardly any U.S. soybeans until December when they made purchases of around 3 million metric tons. However, he says there is better news on the horizon.
He says the reason total exports may end up close to normal at the end of the marketing year in September is other U.S. soybean export customers have stepped up their purchases, especially with the lower prices.
Even Argentina has been buying U.S. soybeans to crush due to their drought-stricken crop.
Burke says USSEC is also working on opening new markets for U.S. soybeans around the globe.
