President-elect Donald Trump has chosen lawyer Robert LIghthizer as the next U.S. Trade Representative. U.S. Soybean Export Council Chairman Jim Miller who farms near Belden, Nebraska, says his group is anxious to work with the new USTR, but has some concerns.
He says Lighthizer has great experience and brings some real positives to the position.
Miller is hoping they’ll be able to convince Lighthizer to take a more reasonable approach to trade with China, rather than such a hard stance.
Trump’s transition team says Lighthizer will work closely with Commerce Secretary designee Wilbur Ross and Peter Navarro, who will head the newly created White House National Trade Council. They will develop and implement policies to shrink the U.S. trade deficit, expand economic growth and strengthen manufacturing.
