Some Democratic Senators are concerned with the Trump administration’s trade policies and think they’re picking winners and losers with the Market Facilitation Program payments. Minnesota Soybean Growers Association Executive Director Joe Smentek says he’s heard that frustration by growers that southern producers are getting more from the MFP than those more directly impacted by the trade war.

He says the U.S. soybean industry has been seeking alternative markets for their product since the trade war with China began.

Smentek says he’s heading for a buyers meeting this week in Japan and hopes to gain more access for Minnesota’s and U.S. soybeans.

Smentek says most soybean growers want trade more than aid. He says the MFP payments didn’t make producers whole, but did provide some help.
