American Soybean Association leaders are calling on Congress to pass clean Trade Promotion Authority Legislation with no amendments. ASA Board Director and Valley Springs area South Dakota farmer Kevin Scott says having a seamless measure gives it a better chance of being approved.
Scott says when amendments are put into TPA legislation it changes the purpose of the bill which is giving the President authority to negotiate needed trade deals quickly and efficiently. He says overseas markets are critical for soybean growers as more than half of the U.S. soybean crop is exported and in 2014, the U.S. exported roughly $ 30.5 billion in soybeans, soybean meal and soybean oil.
