The Soy Transportation Coalition is monitoring the track of Hurricane Delta which is expected to reach the Louisiana coastline today. Delta is one of the fastest intensifying storms ever recorded. STC Executive Director Mike Steenhoek says their main concern is how it might impact the export ports on the lower Mississippi River.

He says what’s concerning is this time of the year is one of the most active times for export business.

Steenhoek says while it’s been a tough year for agriculture due to the pandemic, the bright spot has been the robust export trade that’s taken place in the past week.

Steenhoek says Hurricane Delta has been developing rapidly since it went from a tropical depression to a Category 4 hurricane in less than 36 hours from Sunday night October 4 to late Tuesday morning October 6. That’s a very fast intensification for this late in the hurricane season.
