Upgrading the nation’s infrastructure is on the agenda of both President Trump and Congress. In fact, the President may reference his $1 trillion infrastructure proposal during tonight’s State of the Union Address. Soy Transportation Coalition Executive Director Mike Steenhoek says with all the attention on infrastructure, his board has released their “Top 10 Most Wanted List of Infrastructure Priorities.”

He says their list calls for specific improvements including enhancing rural roads and bridges, highways and interstates, freight rail service, the inland waterway system and ports.

Steenhoek says the Soy Transportation Coalition board thinks the best way to pay for those infrastructure upgrades is to increase the federal gas tax and index it to inflation.

Steenhoek says upgrading the nation’s infrastructure needs to be looked at as an investment in the country, rather than a cost.
