China’s recent move to add the U.S. to a list of Zika infected countries is worrying U.S. exporters. U.S. exporters are worried they’ll be required to fumigate all containers destined for China. Soy Transportation Coalition Executive Director Mike Steenhoek says they’re closely monitoring the situation.
He says there haven’t been any protocols issued yet that have caused any market barriers.
Steenhoek says if China goes ahead with export fumigation rules for ZIKA, Brazil could face the most restrictions.
American exporters ship about 5.1 million containers worth about $ 255 billion a year to China.
