Several counties in Southwest Minnesota including Murray, Jackson and Nobles have some farms flooded out and excessive moisture has drenched a number of fields. One of the hardest hit areas is Murray County. University of Minnesota Extension Educator Melissa Runck says in the nine years she’s been there it’s the worst flooding she’s seen.
University of Minnesota Extension Crops Specialist Liz Stahl says the conditions vary from field to field in Nobles County and replant options are limited.
Stahl says farmers may be able to plant cover crops in some instances.
Stahl says for specific replant advice go to their U of M extension website. Runck advises farmers check with their local farm service agency office as there may be zero interest loans available if you qualify.
