Southwest Minnesota Crops Look Tough After Flooding and Heavy Rains

The water may be receding, but the crops in southwest Minnesota look tough after heavy rains and flooding in June. Adam Blume farms west of Worthington and says June rains were near record for his area. Plus, there’s more rain falling today and in the forecast the next five days.

Blume says with all the drowned-out spots he’s expecting yield loss and will be happy with average yields this season.

Warren Jansma farms near Ellsworth and says with the above normal precipitation, crop ratings have understandably dropped.

He says he’s also lost yield potential on his corn with nitrogen loss and he expects production to be below last year.

Jansma says in 2017 his corn yields ranged from 170 to 190-bushel per acre. He’s been 100-percent corn on corn for the last 18 years.
