South Dakota’s winter wheat harvest has wrapped up with strong yields and excellent quality. That’s according to Reid Christopherson, Executive Director of the South Dakota Wheat Commission. He says some areas of central South Dakota experienced some hail but other than that the yields generally ran higher than last year.
He says protein levels on the winter wheat are also above 2017.
Christopherson says farmers now will turn their attention to planting of next year’s crop starting around mid-September.
Christopherson says putting winter wheat into the rotation makes sense as it helps improve soil health.
