South Dakota’s Congressional delegation is supporting the President’s latest offer to end the government shutdown and agree it has been negative for agriculture. South Dakota Senator John Thune says he’s glad the Farm Service Agency offices temporarily opened, but says it’s just a band aid and he is hopeful there will be movement this week on a deal.
Senator Mike Rounds says the lack of USDA reports and FSA office closures is also hurting agriculture and making it difficult for farmers to make decisions for 2019.
However, Rounds is still optimistic about getting E15 approved for summer driving, especially after his exchange with the new EPA Administrator.
Congressman Dusty Johnson says he doesn’t understand why the President and Democrats can’t compromise and it comes at the expense of many sectors, including agriculture.
On Saturday President Trump announced a plan that would provide temporary protection from deportation for some immigrants in exchange for $5.7 billion in funding for a border wall.
