A plaque honoring the memory of the tenth Governor of South Dakota, William McMaster, was dedicated Thursday on the Meridian Bridge in Yankton.
McMaster, who served as Governor from 1921 to 1925, was one of the organizers of the company that built the bridge in the early 20s.
Dr Mary McMaster, a granddaughter from Virginia was at the ceremony, and says it was very impressive….

As Governor, McMaster fought the oil companies by opening the state pumps to the public in reaction to high gas prices. Dr McMaster says she has done some research and found some of what her grandfather went through…..
McMaster also served in the US Senate from South Dakota from 1924 to 1930. He died in 1968. A statue in his honor will also be unveiled at the State Capital in Pierre.
