The Assistant State Conservationist at the South Dakota NRCS office has been named acting State Conservationist for the Nebraska NRCS. Jeff Vanderwilt will be filling that position for 120 days. He says he’s looking forward to the job and sharing conservation ideas that work in both states.

He says there are several similarities in South Dakota and Nebraska when it comes to conservation.

Vanderwilt says the advent of soil health and its importance to conservation has been seen in both states.

Vanderwilt takes over for Craig Derickson who retired after serving as Nebraska State Conservationist for the past ten years and who was with NRCS for 35 years. Vanderwilt has worked with NRCS for over 25 years.
