A measure to authorize rebuilding the state rail line west of Chamberlain has passed a South Dakota House Committee after being approved in the Senate. South Dakota Wheat Grower’s backs Senate Bill 137 and says their proposed $ 40 million project hinges on upgrading of the rail line.
Roger Krueger, senior vice president for grain and fertilizer for the Wheat Growers says they’ve had plans for this facility for some time.
Krueger says that rail line West of Chamberlain going into Lyman County needs to be upgraded to benefit agriculture and the entire state.
Krueger says if the House passes the measure and the Governor signs it that it will be helpful for producers and will provide the state a significant economic boost. The bill currently appropriates only thirty eight dollars for the project. That will probably be amended once the final budget numbers are worked out.
