Several Republicans were hoping for a vote on ratification of the USMCA trade deal before the August recess. Debate on the agreement however in the U.S. Congress isn’t expected to come up until September at the earliest. South Dakota Senator John Thune speaking on the Senate floor this week called for ratification of the deal saying it’s important for the struggling agricultural economy.
He says the Speaker of the House needs to get the deal moving and ask President Trump to send it up to Congress.
Thune says the U.S. dairy industry will benefit greatly from the USMCA pact.
Thune says agriculture isn’t the only sector of the economy that will benefit from the USMCA. He says manufacturing also stands to benefit and that the deal means an addition of 176,000 jobs.
