A report from the National Education Association shows South Dakota coming off dead last in teacher pay. The state now ranks forty eighth out of fifty-one.
South Dakota Education Association President Mary McCorkle says it is a significant step…..
McCorkle says it has taken a long time to change…..
Average teacher pay in the state increased about twelve percent to just under forty seven thousand dollars. Most due to the half-cent sales tax increase that was passed in 2016.
McCorkle says the legislature can’t stand still on pay…..
McCorkle says the increased pay is also helping recruit younger teachers to school districts across the state.
