South Dakota Stock Grower’s Association members are pleased with the farm bills approved by the House and Senate. Association President Gary Deering says they’re particularly pleased with the amendments in the Senate Farm Bill brought forward by South Dakota Senator John Thune, most notably the provision to allow producers to cut hay and graze livestock on land enrolled in the Conservation Reserve Program.
He says having consistent and better rainfall data is critical for producers who graze on public lands and for determining when they get disaster payments.
Deering says the Senate version of the farm bill is a little better than what the House came up with but they like both versions.
Deering is hoping they’ll be able to conference the two farm bills and come up with final legislation and pass it prior to the expiration of the current farm bill.
