At their recent convention, South Dakota Stockgrowers Association members chose Scott Edoff of Hermosa as their new President. Edoff who’s been serving as Vice President takes over from Gary Deering. Edoff says at the national level their main concern is getting Mandatory Country of Origin Labeling reinstated.

Montana Senator Jon Tester has introduced a resolution calling for the reinstatement of COOL and Senators John Thune and Mike Rounds have introduced the Beef Integrity Act which calls for a Product of the USA label on beef born, raised and slaughtered in the U.S. Edoff says at the state level, they’re hoping to convince lawmakers in January to get more local beef into schools across the state.

He says another important issue they’re hoping South Dakota legislators to address in January is a fix for the current property tax system which is a burden for many cattle producers.

Edoff says he’s also concerned at the rising numbers of easements which are resulting in taking land off of the tax rolls creating more problems for schools in the state.
