The 2021 South Dakota Legislative session got underway Tuesday in Pierre. One of the issues that has the ag community divided is over the Governor’s plan to merge the State Department of Agriculture with Natural Resources and the Environment. The South Dakota Stock Grower’s Association is taking a neutral stance. President Scott Edoff says some of their members like the merger idea while others have concerns.

He says their Association likes the idea of expanding broadband access as the Governor is proposing. Edoff says they’ll also be monitoring what happens with any tax issues.

Edoff says one of their main priorities they sought help from the Lt. Governor is on expanding local meat processing.

Edoff says they’ll remain engaged with state lawmakers during the session as sometimes other issues may pop up effecting their industry.
