While current state employees in South Dakota are looking at another wage freeze this year, several agencies are dealing with chronic labor shortages.
Prison guards and mental health workers are hard to find.

Representative Jean Hunhoff of Yankton says the Appropriations Committee has been hearing about the issue from the Departments of Corrections and Social Services.
She says its often more than just money……

Hunhoff says the Human Services Center in Yankton is offering an employment bonus…..

Hunhoff says there is a possibility that some money now being used in Medicaid could be redirected……

She says that would depend on the federal government fully funding the Indian Health Service in the state.
