The number of students receiving special education services is rising faster than enrollment growth, and that is pushing costs higher.

Representative Mary Duvall of Pierre Chaired the “Extraordinary Cost Fund for Special Education” task force of the South Dakota legislature…

The state has set aside four million dollars a year in that special education fund for schools to share, but it is being drained each year.

Duvall says their committee came up with some recommendations…

Duvall says more money should be put in the fund..

Duvall gave her task forces report to the legislature’s Executive Board last week in Pierre.
