The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals in California has ordered the Environmental Protection Agency to cancel registrations of ) chlopyrifos within 60 days. The court ruled that the chemical shouldn’t be registered in the face of evidence that its residue on food causes neurodevelopmental damage to children. South Dakota Soybean Association President Jerry Schmitz is disappointed with the ruling against chlorpyrifos which is the main ingredient in Lorsban which is used to control insects.

He says with the banning of chlorpyrifos it limits growers options to control insects.

Schmitz is hoping those defending the chemical appeal the court’s decision to the nation’s highest court.

Lorsban is the primary chemical used on pests such as soybean aphids, spider mites and corn rootworm.
