Soybean harvest in South Dakota is wrapping up, while corn harvest has been delayed by the cool, wet weather. In fact, USDA’s crop progress report showed corn harvest at 61-percent done verses the 80-percent average. Lyle Hoesing with Dakota Plains Ag Center in Yankton says he sees the corn harvest stretching out through November.
He says the soybean harvest is complete, with many farmers in southeastern South Dakota getting better than expected yields.
Hoesing says corn yields have been more variable in the area and results are reflective of where the rains fell during key reproductive phases.
He says the corn is fairly wet and so there is more grain drying taking place this fall than the last couple of seasons.
