South Dakota farmers made good progress on harvest last week due to some more favorable weather. USDA’s crop progress report put soybean harvest at 81-percent, which is just slightly behind the five-year average of 90-percent. Goodwin farmer Todd Hanten says harvest got off to a frustrating start with the excessive rains, but things have turned around.
And Hanten says despite some white mold pressure, soybean yields are better than he expected.
Valley Springs farmer Kevin Scott says soybean yields on his farm are running behind last year’s records. However, he’s also pleased with yields considering the challenges during the growing season, especially with moisture.
Corn harvest in South Dakota is just getting started at 19-percent and is running well behind the normal pace of 51-percent.
