South Dakota Soybean Association members have joined their national group, ASA in calling on President Trump to reconsider tariffs on China. President Jerry Schmitz says the President’s action on China have led to retaliation and that led to soybean market prices to drop nearly 40 cents a bushel on Wednesday morning.
He says as the trade dispute with China goes on, it will have devastating impacts on South Dakota’s farmers.
Schmitz says there is still time to reverse the damage caused by China’s retaliation which hit 106 U.S. commodities including $50 billion on soybeans, automobiles and chemical products.
Schmitz says the retaliatory tariffs announced by China put years of market access efforts and the livelihoods of South Dakota farmers in jeopardy.
