South Dakota Sheep Growers Association members will gather in Spearfish September 27 and 28 for their 82nd Annual Convention. President Wade Kopren says their monitoring the U.S. China trade war and are concerned about the negative effect it’s having on their wool market.
He says on the state level they want to make sure the legislature keeps funding the extension program because that’s critical for their industry.
Kopren says they’re thankful for Governor Kristi Noem’s help in keeping the state animal damage control program in place to deal with predators.
Kopren says their membership is on the rise with currently about 170 members. He says they’d like to increase that even more as there are around 2,000 sheep producers in South Dakota.
