The South Dakota Game Fish and Parks Department has obtained a second airplane for coyote hunting in order to help with the predator problem in the state. That aircraft is expected to be operational the middle part of this month. South Dakota Sheep Growers President Max Matthews of Bison says he’s encouraged to hear that. He says now coverage will be better for East River producers.

The second GF and P plane is expected to add another 300 hours of hunting time for controlling predators. Matthews says that should have a major positive impact.

Last year there were 7200 coyotes killed which is higher than in 2012 when 6700 were eliminated. Matthews says getting legislative funding last year for three more trappers has also helped with predator control.
