South Dakota Sets Record Low Unemployment Rate


PIERRE, SD – South Dakota and New Hampshire have broken the record for the lowest unemployment rate in United States history according to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Both states recorded a level of 1.8% unemployment for the month of June 2023.  The previous record was 1.9% held by multiple states.

The next lowest rates in the nation were held by Nebraska and Vermont, both at 1.9%.  The highest rate in the nation was seen in Nevada with 5.4% unemployment.

The national average is 3.6%.  Overall three states and the District of Columbia were all above the national average, 22 states were lower, and 25 states were approximately at the national level.
