District 16 Senator Dan Lederman of Dakota Dunes has announced he is stepping down from the South Dakota legislature. He made the announcement on his Facebook page as the 2015 session wrapped up today.

Lederman said he was proud to have served in the State Legislature for 7 years, “accomplishing much for the people who sent me to represent them in both the House and the Senate. I cherish the friendships I made, the opportunities for learning, and the good we were able to do.”

Lederman said he had to balance the public service against the time demands on his family. He said while Governor Dennis Daugaard will have to make an appointment to the Senate, he would recommend Representative Jim Bolin of Canton.

When contacted by WNAX News this afternoon, Lederman said he would rather wait until tomorrow before making further comments.
Lederman was elected to the House in 2008, before moving to the Senate in 2011.
