South Dakota Senator John Thune has introduced bipartisan legislation that would help approve certain Renewable Fuel Standard pathway applications like corn fiber. American Coalition for Ethanol CEO Brian Jennings says the measure is particularly beneficial for advanced biofuels.
He says Thune’s measure will compel the EPA to move forward on advanced biofuel applications rather than letting them sit idled at the agency awaiting action.
Jennings says it’s ironic the biofuel applications are left idled by the EPA while the agency rushes through approval of small refiner waivers which damage the RFS and biofuels. He also says Thune’s legislation will bring significant environmental benefits.
Jennings says the legislation also gives an economic boost to the ethanol industry at a time it’s suffering from the negative impacts of the pandemic. He says the next thing that needs to happen is for Congress to pass a stimulus package that gives aid to ethanol producers.
