South Dakota Senator John Thune is introducing a measure that gives farmers a new conservation and risk management program that’s intended to help boost their income. He says it’s known as the SHIP program.
He says it’s a shorter term program than CRP.
Thune says it will help farmers take their low yielding land out of production until crop prices rebound. He also says it’s designed to be revenue neutral.
Thune says they’ll know more once they get the score from the Congressional Budget Office.
