The South Dakota Board of Education has approved new math and reading standards for state students.

Kevin Kunz, Superintendent at Freeman Public, says they will put teams together to look at the new standards, and how to adopt them….

Kunz says while the state doesn’t mandate use, the academic assessment tests are tied to the standards…..

Kunz says they will have the new standards in place for the fall term…..

Other new standards include social studies, with an emphasis on Native American culture and history
