Preparation for the next farm bill is already beginning with some U.S. House members. South Dakota Representative Kristi Noem who serves on the Ways and Means Committee says it’s important to educate fellow House members who don’t understand agriculture and yet have a great impact on what comes out of the legislation.

She says discussion has already started on what changes need to be made in the farm legislation including improvements in the ARC and PLC safety net programs.

Noem says a tax deduction that’s important for farmers was preserved because she was able to weigh in with fellow Ways and Means Committee members who didn’t understand it until she explained it to them.

Noem says what the Ways and Means Committee does has a great impact on the Farm Bill and other House legislation.
