South Dakota Representative Kristi Noem says while she supported the Trans Pacific Partnership, she understands President Trump’s goal of achieving better trade deals for the U.S. Trump withdrew from TPP in the first days of his presidency and Noem says the shift to working on bi-lateral agreements isn’t all bad.
As far as re-opening NAFTA, Noem says she isn’t opposed to it as long as it doesn’t end up in a trade war.
As a member of the House Ways and Means Committee Noem works directly on trade deals, but also taxation. As such she says they are exploring an international border adjustment tax as a way to level the playing field on trade as well.
