The South Dakota legislature’s interim raw milk working group is making progress as they move forward trying to find a compromise to allow for more raw milk production and sales. State Ag Secretary Lucas Lentsch chair’s the working group. He says for a working solution, the product must be safe for consumers.
Lentsch says not all the committee members agree but the debate has been civilized and each member is looking for a viable solution everyone can live with.
He says their next meeting will be in July when the group takes a first hand look at a raw milk operation.
Lentsch expects either adjustments to the present state raw milk rules or proposed legislation to come out of the committee’s work.
